Expectations for serving in GENESIS Kids
GENESIS Kids Unlimited (ages 18 and up)
You are playing a role in the developing faith of children. Therefore, you have the opportunity to model what it looks like to love God and follow Jesus!
GENESIS KIDS TEAM EXPECTATIONS
Commit to the LORD
- Have a committed and growing relationship with Jesus, demonstrated through your Christ-like character, by attending church on Sundays (“sit one, serve one”) and participating in our discipleship rhythms, such as GROUPS, STUDIES, JOURNEY, as your schedule allows.
Commit to the TEAM
- Respond to schedule requests
- Be prepared: Read the emails with the lessons so you know what’s happening and are prepared to teach
- Be on Time: Our huddles relay important information for the day, so arrive 30 minutes before the service time to receive these updates.
Follow the Dress Code
- Wear your GENESIS KIDS t-shirt and lanyard so both parents and security know that you are a team member
- Dress appropriately – you will be playing with children, sitting on the floor, dancing, etc. Be mindful of baggy shirts or pants that may be revealing. Wear closed toed shoes.
- Follow the guidelines for your role and listen to and respect those leading GENESIS Kids (GK Coordinator, Core Team Members and GENESIS Kids Director).
UNLIMITED TEACHER ROLE
- Build relationships with kids and families, build a reliable rapport with the child and family you serve
- Be a role model for the other volunteers you are serving with
- Conduct the class with the following schedule (if child is served in separate classroom):
- Check In/Free play (with toys or directed activities)
- Worship
- Large Group lesson (with game/craft/activity/object lesson)
- Small Group time
- Check Out: The same adult who checked children in should also check them out along with take home items.
- ENSURE that the parents security tag and the child’s tag match. Do not release a child if a parent does not have a matching tag. Ask your GK Coordinator to help or gently send the parent to the Welcome Desk for assistance.
- Check the child’s name off the roster and remove their security sticker (place it on the roster sheet).
- Facilitate the class by allowing all children to have a chance to respond and share as they are able.
- Pray WITH the children, ask for prayer requests and demonstrate what it looks/sounds like to talk to/pray to God.
