Expectations for serving in GENESIS Kids

GENESIS Kids Coordinator (experienced adult)

You are playing a role in the developing faith of children. Therefore, you have the opportunity to model what it looks like to love God and follow Jesus! You are also modeling to GENESIS Kids team members how to serve with excellence, humility, and the love of Christ.

GENESIS KIDS TEAM EXPECTATIONS

Commit to the LORD

• Have a committed and growing relationship with Jesus, demonstrated through your Christ-like character, by attending church on Sundays (“sit one, serve one”) and participating in our discipleship rhythms, such as GROUPS, STUDIES, JOURNEY, as your schedule allows.

Commit to the TEAM

• Set an example of leadership for all GK Team members
• Be above reproach in your walk with the Lord
• Know, understand and be willing to execute the expectations outlined in the GK Guidebook, Classroom roles, and Welcome Desk role
• Arrive prepared to lead, understanding that you are in a position that may require you to make decisions in the moment
• BE prepared to handle behavior challenges with kids (or assist the Lead Teacher with these needs)
• Be prepared to adhere to all GK safety and security policies (or assist the Lead Teachers with these standards)
• Be on time, 20 minutes early for huddle

COORDINATOR ROLE

• Oversee and execute Sunday morning service

  • Ensure that each room is staffed with 2 adults
  • Follow ratio standards and adjust to keep classrooms in the correct ratio (adults to children)
  • Greet families as they arrive and drop off children, ensure that kids are checked into the correct classrooms for their age
  • Provide support to and be in communication with the Welcome Desk as needed for new families and special situations
  • Assist with children having a hard time separating (as needed)
  • Monitor the time an unconsolable child has been upset, make the decision whether to text a parent through Planning Center (in conjunction with the teacher)
  • Assist with supplies or items that may be needed last minute
  • Be on the inside of the Kid’s hallway so that you are available to bring children to the bathrooms
  • Complete incident reports (with help from the Lead Teacher and anyone who witnessed the incident)
  • Provide First Aid (band aids/ice packs) as needed
  • Carry a GK Radio to be aware of any needs from a classroom teacher or in the event of an emergency
  • Lead the GK Teachers should an emergency occur (see posted Emergency Guide)

• Support the Classroom Teachers and the Team

  • You may be asked to teach in an emergency (GK Director would then take over as Coordinator for the service)
  • Assist in the development of team members as they grow in their teaching/leader skills with GENESIS Kids, you will be asked to lead teach to demonstrate for anyone who may be moving from a Small Group Leader Role to a Lead Teacher Role
  • Step into a classroom if a second adult is not present
  • Assist with bringing children to and from the Welcome Desk for the bathroom
  • Offer encouragement and support to the team while they are serving and during the week, look for opportunities for shout outs (be careful not disrupt/distract a classroom full of children)
  • Be available in the hallway for any team member that has a need
  • Check in on Unlimited Kids (currently at 8:30am service) and The Launch Classroom (currently at the 10am service via video feed at the Kids Desk)
  • Troubleshoot technology either in the classroom or at the Welcome Desk Assist with checking children in when printers or wi-fi fail
  • Navigate behavioral situations with children as necessary, if a teacher has a persistent issue in the classroom, you may need to intervene and support so that the teacher can conduct the lesson
    • Identify the issue and try a solution
    • Help to separate children that tempt each other
    • Remove the child from the group and get down to the child’s level, make eye contact
    • Explain the good choice you want them to make
    • Recognize great behavior
    • Navigate parent concerns or issues as needed
    • Greet new parents and be willing to answer questions about GK
    • Guide parents who have lost their child’s matching sticker (direct them to Welcome Desk Team)
    • Answer questions about any concerns or issues
    • Make the decision to text parents if necessary considering the time remaining in the service and the child’s need

• LEAD THE LEADERS

  • Create a team atmosphere with those you are serving with
  • Cultivate a prayerful team by praying with the Huddle before the service and by praying for the GK Team throughout the week.
  • Notice and recognize leaders who are ready and willing to handle more leadership responsibility
  • Respond to team members who have a concern with any aspect of GK
  • Replenish supplies that might be low between services or let GK leadership know about any low stock/materials
  • Address any concerns with a team member and remind them of the GK expectations
  • Should a team member not follow the GK Guidelines, remind them when the timing is appropriate
  • Notice when a GK Team member needs more support, if they are struggling or need a break, be willing to shepherd them through that decision
  • Lead with gratitude acknowledging that each team member is making a sacrifice to serve
  • Be intentional with sharing ways that you observe a team member growing
  • Assume the best of each volunteer
  • Refrain from gossip and negativity
